The eVISA for Ethiopia is an online travel authorization issued by the Ethiopian government for visitors that travel to the country for touristic purposes. The eVISA was officially launched by the Main Department for Immigration and Nationality Affairs in Ethiopia in June 2017.

The eVISA is an online tourist visa application that saves time. There are no visits to embassies or consulates, and no eternal, complex paperwork. The online process is very easy, more secure than traditional visa application processes and it allows you to have your approved eVISA ready before you leave for your trip.

The approved Ethiopian eVISA is a single-entry visa and is valid for tourism to Ethiopia for thirty (30) days.

To apply for an online Ethiopian eVISA, applicants need the following documents:

An approved eVISA allows you to enter Ethiopia via Bole International Airport in Addis Adaba.

The standard processing time is 1 day(s) once the application is complete and all additional documentation has been provided. However, note that in some cases processing may take up to 2 day(s).

Your eVISA will be sent via email once your application is approved. Print one (1) copy of the approved eVISA in A4 format. Make sure the printed copy is clear and legible.

You can apply for an eVISA once you have an estimate or definite date of arrival for your trip to Ethiopia.

If the applicant has more than one (1) nationality, he/she must choose just one passport to use to fill out the application form. The same passport must then be used to travel to Ethiopia. There cannot be any inconsistencies between the travel document and the information provided on the eVISA application.

If you are a resident of one of the 39 approved countries, you can still apply for an Ethiopian eVISA.

Yes, travelers can extend their visa up to thirty(30) days once they enter Ethiopia at a cost of additional charge. Currently travelers need to go to the Head Office of the Main Department for Immigration and Nationality Affairs in person in order to extend their visa. Visa extension will be available online soon.

All nationalities around the world can apply so long as they have their residence in one of the listed residence countries. The Ethiopian Government is constantly adding new countries to this list.
